Slip-form kerbing was used throughout the development, enabling rapid installation while maintaining a clean, seamless finish. This method requires absolute precision in ground preparation, which was carefully executed on site.
Due to underlying landfill conditions, a deep stone road base was required to prevent settlement. The base was constructed in carefully compacted layers:
- 300mm of 6” stone
- 300mm of 4” stone
- 200mm of 2” stone
This was completed with an 804 blinding layer, fully rolled and vibrated, before finishing the roads with two layers of tarmacadam to a total depth of 120mm.
Cois Ghruada
In addition to internal road construction, this development required the delivery of a new distributor road designed to serve future surrounding developments. The scheme included a high-volume road layout incorporating three roundabout junctions, providing long-term capacity and improved traffic flow for the wider area.
Cois Ríoga
Road construction at Cois Ríoga was straightforward, allowing for efficient delivery. Slip-form kerbing was again utilised, providing a continuous, high-quality kerb finish that complements the overall streetscape.
Cois Srutháin
Due to the site’s strategic location, this development required the realignment of a major junction and the construction of a section of national road. Works included:
- A bridge structure over the roadway
- New slip roads
- Two roundabout junctions
Once the site was cleared and the underlying rock appropriately broken, internal road construction progressed smoothly using a traditional layered base, two layers of tarmacadam and slip-form kerbing throughout.
Cois Teampaill
This project required the realignment of a major road running directly along the front of the development. Traffic flow had to be maintained at all times, making traffic management a critical component of the works.
Despite these constraints, road construction within the development progressed efficiently and was completed without difficulty, reflecting strong planning, sequencing and on-site execution by the engineering team.
