I.C.F. Insulated Concrete Formwork
Insulating Concrete forms (ICF’s) enclose a massive, high-strength material (concrete) between two panels of polystyrene creating structural walls that are insulated on the inside and outside.
Insulated concrete formwork is a building system utilising formwork panels, manufactured from ultra high density expanded polystyrene (EPS), which are used to construct walls, floors and roof panels for houses and other buildings. These panels are then filled with ready-mixed concrete and left in place permanently as thermal insulation.
The system exploits the insulation properties of the polystyrene and the structural integrity of the concrete and has been used in Europe and in North America for over fifty years. For an internal finish plasterboard is used in normal way to obtain standard internal finish and fire ratings. For external finishing, the EPS can be plastered or external brickwork or stonework added if required by the end user.
Insulated Concrete Formwork (IFC) building methods are what is referred to as modern methods of construction (MMC) which, combines permanence and durability with thermal efficiency. ICF originated in Europe approximately 40 years ago and has recently become popular in the US and Canada. In the last 5 to 6 years ICF has entered the Irish market with micro sized companies acting as distributors for manufacturers based outside Ireland. As a result of pressure to build faster, more and more developers and builders are trying ICF because of the reduction in construction time and the self builder is trying it because of its simplicity and the high quality result. In addition, house builders are becoming more aware of the fact that energy certificates and ICF houses will be to the fore in minimizing heat loss and will attain an “A rating” very simply. It will be of growing importance for developers to obtain this rating in order to achieve satisfy requirements.
ICF give you high performance buildings…
Design Flexibility
Due to the modular nature of the Eurozone system, buildings are designed to the clients needs and can easily incorporate intricate design features such as arches and curves.
Structural Strength
The Eurozone reinforced concrete structure is far stronger than building constructed from blocks or other building methods.
High Thermal Value
Double insulation on the inside and outside of the formwork produces superior U-values, as low as U value 0.11, minimizing heat loss through the walls.
Superior Sound Proofing
Due to the combination of concrete and polystyrene the system is a highly effective sound barrier preventing the travel of sound throughout a building.
Environmentally friendly
The entire ICF system is made from fully recyclable non toxic products.
Our commitment to progress is driven by curiosity and a passion for improvement. Over the years, we’ve invested heavily in research, training, and collaboration to identify and adopt the latest building technologies. Whether it’s incorporating smart home solutions, renewable energy systems, advanced insulation materials, or modern construction methodologies, we take pride in staying ahead of the curve. Each innovation we adopt undergoes a rigorous evaluation process, ensuring that it meets our high standards of quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness before being integrated into our projects.
Here at the Roche Group, our philosophy is simple: technology should serve people. We focus on practical innovation—solutions that make construction safer, faster, and more sustainable while improving the experience of those who live or work in our buildings. By continuously refining our approach and embracing the best that modern technology has to offer, we are able to deliver projects that combine traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge techniques, ensuring our clients receive the very best results both now and in the future.
Light Steel Frame Construction
A Superior End to End Process
The solutions we offer encompass consultation, design, manufacturing and materials supply, and it’s all backed up with a robust support infrastructure to help you get a quick return on your investment.
Architect’s Rendition
The process begins with an architect’s design that can be transferred to the Roche Group Solutions design, detailing & engineering software.
Roche Group Light Steel Frame Construction
The entire frame is then designed & detailed using software. The completed file, then ready for production, is sent electronically to the manufacturing equipment.
Production
The manufacturing equipment then creates each component of the building frame individually, labelling them according to their location in the frame for error free construction.
Individual Components
Every component is produced & detailed with individual characteristics according to it’s position in each panel. Cut to length, service and fastening holes pre-punched, swaged, notched and ready for assembly.
Assembly
The assembly process usually takes place at the factory as each finished component is produced by the manufacturing equipment. They are assembled & screwed together to form the panels & trusses.
Transport
The completed panels and trusses are then transported to the construction site.
Construction
Once at the consruction site, the panels and trusses are unlocked & positioned for rapid and accurate assembly.
Finished Product
Once the frame is completed, the rest of the structure is build around the world’s most advanced end-to-end steel frame building solution.
The new age of steel for healthy living
We are commited to the continuing development of world leading solutions to advance the use of sustainable building techniques.
Environmentally Friendly
Steel construction products offer a number of unique environmental benefits such as product durability and longevity, lower cost and more efficient transportation, less raw material wastage, recycled product content and eco-friendliness.
Cost Effective & Quick to Build
With accurately made steel frame components, construction is quick and doesn’t require highly skilled labour. Once assembled, a steel frame constuction won’t warp, bend, rot or be affected by termite damage. many users have reduced overall project time by more than 10%, and some projects have been completed up to 30% faster.
User Friendly & Durable
Steel doesn’t have to be treated with pesticides, preservatives or glues, so steel frame houses offer indoor air quality benefits. And because of steel’s inert character and the manner in which steel framed buildings are insulated, floors and walls are not susceptible to moisture build up, which contributes to the formation of mould.
Timber Frame Construction
Timber Frame construction is the founding father of modular building technology. In it’s various forms it has been used for centuries but only in the last 15 years has it really taken off. Timber frame building technology is now incredibly versatile. While used predominantly in home building, with the advent of new technologies it has discovered an application now in commercial buildings also.
This type of construction is renowned for providing well insulated, strong and durable buildings. It also brings great efficiency to the build process.
With the majority of timber producers now implementing replanting strategies it is more ecologically friendly than ever to use timber in the build process.
Concrete Panel & Lightweight Block
HEBEL panels
Building elements are optimal when they are not just large, and therefore costeffective, but also flexible, and therefore small enough for individual designs.
Modular building with HEBEL panels
Standardised panel sizes and the way they can be flexibly combined, makes individual, architectural design a possibility.
Imagine a building material that effortlessly fulfils all demands of a large, possibly air-conditioned, building. Costeffective in planning and installation, energy-saving in terms of upkeep, guaranteed to have a long life and requiring little maintenance. This is what you can expect from HEBEL building panels.
A pleasant climate indoors during both summer and winter, good sound insulation and excellent fire safety are top benefits. Excellent thermal insulation guarantees low energy consumption for heating or cooling in the long term. Sustainable, environmentally sound building with HEBEL panels will become the rule.
From a functional point of view, aerated concrete surpasses the majority of alternative building materials. Just compare it with the usual standards of concrete or sheet metal constructions.
It is approximately four times more expensive to cool a building than to heat it. Aerated concrete combines a high level of insulation with effective protection against the heat during summer. In addition, you get the highest level of fire safety and good sound insulation.
Countless pores in the material ensure unique properties relevant to building physics. Outstanding thermal insulation, the highest level of fire safety, low weight and good sound insulation. Aerated concrete guarantees a pleasant indoor temperature.
Basic material
Thanks to its characteristic structure comprising millions of tiny pores, it offers optimum solidity at low weight. As air has a low heat conductivity, aerated concrete provides for excellent thermal protection. It protects from cold and heat, allowing for single-shell constructions which provide more space, save time and reduce costs-aspects which are of considerable importance to property developers.
Aerated concrete is made from natural raw materials – sand, lime, cement and water – with an aerating agent.
